Summer Workshops: The Yat Method

If creation begins in a moment of release and chaos, the question of your capacity to live inside that chaos in a full, truthful and penetrable way becomes immediate. A rare opportunity to explore the Yat Work in either of our two intensives, July 28th-30th in the Bay Area and August 13th-16th in Los Angeles. Long known in Europe, but new to the U.S., the Yat Method offers a methodological and dynamic approach to the creation of Character. Addressing the extraordinary links between the inner and outer life, Yat Work presents a theory and practice of understanding the relationship between our unconscious movements, or “shadow moves,” and our deep-seated psychological impulses, providing the theater artist with a new lens by which to read the world around them. With an extraordinary capacity to cultivate and free the actor’s inner resources, Yat Work creates within the actor the ability to realize characters through an unrecognizable transformation in the role. Developed by trailblazer Yat Malmgren, this work, also known as Movement Pyschology and Character Transformation, has developed some of the finest actors working today, including Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hardy, Emilia Clarke, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett and Sean Connery, among many others.
